Knitting Rhizomatics

Claire Dalmyn and Danielle Coghlan

A collection of wasp-orchids knit in conversation with the “Introduction: Rhizome” piece in Deleuze and Guattari’s A Thousand Plateaus, interweaving material technologies of textile craft with scientific and artistic infoldings of “nomad thought”.

Rather than a linear journey between two points, knitted fabric grows by swerving, looping, pulling together and veering away. Our orchids, like other knit objects and Deleuze and Guattari’s rhizome, may be perceived as transient rests in the viscous temporal and spatial flow of the yarn, always anticipating the acceleration of unravelling. Guests are invited to (gently) touch the work, tuning in with many senses.
